How can the accounting program help my business?
Since the introduction of GST into Australia in 2000, the small business operator has been dragged into the modern world.
Before this, a "shoe-box" system was adequate to chase the slow paying customers, keep a pile of unpaid invoices from your suppliers and maintain a list or collection of invoices & dockets for the accountant to sort out - the bank account balance, the diary of work to be done and the annual reporting by the accountant was the bare minimum.
But now, in a different world, to succeed, the business does need to have a lot more information to enable better management in the following areas:
- Production
- Purchasing
- Sales
- Marketing
- Finance
- Staff
- Plant maintenance
An accounting program looks at all of these activities, but by its very nature, it is only concerned with dollars and cents - which you do need, but usually at the end of the "day".
Setting KPI's (Key Performance Indicators) that look at your budget, the actual results and why the difference will produce a better business. (Your Net Profit is just one of these KPI's).
Choosing an accounting package is not a simple matter and to be honest, most business operators are too busy with day-to-day matters to give the matter the importance that it requires. |
